Endhiran Movie Review (First on Net)

6 Out of 5 Stars !!

The Best Entertainer Movie Of Tamil Cinema Till Date

First of a Kind !!

Story: Dr. Vasi (Rajnikanth) is a scientist with a mission. He wants to create the first robot which would not only serve tea and coffee to its masters but would have the power to serve humanity in more meaningful ways.

He creates Chitti, the humanoid who looks like him and is willing to do anything for him. Trouble begins when he goes a step further and teaches the machine to feel. Chitti falls in love with the professor's girl friend, Sana (Aishwarya Rai) and ends up becoming an almost undefinable rival in love, courtesy the red chip that a rival scientist (Danny Denzongpa) infuses in him. Can the creator tame the rogue robot or will machine rule over man?

Movie Review: Want to see what mainstream Indian cinema actually means? Go, watch Robot. The last 30 minutes of the film are literally the baap (grandmaster) of all make-believe and end up creating a whole new genre of cinema: the `curry eastern' which stands up as a wholesome alternative to the curry western. For Rajnikanth fans, the climax is definitely a sure-fire way to lose your sanity.

For non-Rajnikanth fans, it's a sure-fire way to understand the mystique and magical allure of Rajni Sir, a hero who enjoys a demi-god status in several parts of India. Why? Because there are almost a hundred Rajnikanths eating up helicopters, smashing cars, battering planet earth and creating havoc, like never before. If you thought Terminator, Matrix, Godzilla was fun, then we guarantee you'll fall off your chair with glee as our desi T2-meets-Blade Runner-meets Neo-meets-Godzilla sets the screen on fire in a crazy, vengeance bid. Spoofy, yes. But super fun too.

Robot is primarily designed as an unadulterated tribute to the charisma of Indian cinema's ageless superstar, Rajnikanth. And it's completely, wholeheartedly, joyously desi. Where else would you find a hero who literally shoots with his fingers! What's more important is the fact that you actually don't mind when the bullet whizzes out of his forefinger and hits the man in front in the head. Instant death! Ha Ha!

The high point of Robot are the super quality special effects. All the Spiderman, Batman and Superhero antics of Rajnikanth have been done with exquisite elan by the Stan Winston Studio which reportedly provided the Animatrics for films like Jurassic Park and Avatar. And all the stunts have been choreographed by Yuen Woo Ping, the Hong Kong based action director who created the high-adrenalin stunts of classics like Kill Bill and Matrix. Almost 40 per cent of the film's colossal budget (Rs 160 crores) has been spent on special effects, which, at the end of the day, seems all worthwhile. For watching Rajnikanth running horizontal on a speeding train, clambering across burning buildings like Spiderman or mutating into gargantuan monsters does manage to shock and awe the viewer who's out there to have big time fun.

But Robot isn't effect alone. It has a plot too which, if you really pay attention, has a meaning and a message. The film carries forward the man-machine war through interesting twists and turns and creates a lively love triangle between scientist Rajnikanth, medico student, Aishwarya Rai and robot Rajnikanth. Interestingly, the duo make an interesting pair, what with Rajni saar's sundry wigs and sideburns and Aishwarya's tribal `Kilimanjaro-Mohenjodaro' attire. Peppered with colourful songs (AR Rahman) and dances (Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram) and high-octane drama, Robot is the perfect getaway film, guaranteed to give you a high with its heady over-the-top Indian flavour. You might just OD (overdose) on the pungent masala fare.

SiraSri: ‘Heart To Heart With RGV’!! Interview

He is known as the controversial yet sought after movie maker and though his success graph suffers ups and downs, that has not waned his following and instead, it has increased with each passing day. To someone whose best friend is controversy and finds ‘good is boring’, his instinct as a film maker surpasses all boundaries. He is none other than Ram Gopal Varma and here is an exclusive from the man himself to SiraSri about his latest creation… ‘Rakta Charitra’.

Is it true that the second part of ‘Rakta Charitra’ is releasing in a week?
No, the second part will be released in two weeks time and the promos for that will begin as soon as the first part hits the screens.

How is the response to the audio so far? What is the opinion of Paritala Sunita and Suri on the songs? The response to the audio is good I hear. But I have not been in touch with either Sunita garu or Suri to know about this. However, I would like to make it clear that this is just an inspiration from the lives of Ravi and Suri and not an exact representation of their lives. But since I have the equation with them, I am looking at having a special screening for them once the entire thing is ready.

The general public has connected the character of Shatrughan Sinha with NTR looking at the costume and appearance and then the promos show him uttering the dialogue of ‘Enugu cheemani tokkithe chaavadu..nalipi champaali’. Can we think that NTR is being shown in a negative light in the film?
See, for any powerful character, I might get an inspiration and the same goes for this character as well. For instance, the making of ‘Sarkar’ was based on a strong inspiration of someone like Bal Thackeray, without that the conceptualization is not there. But then, this is just the inspiration per se and the story as such is my own so the question doesn’t arise whether anyone is being shown in the right frame of light or not. It is just a story and the presence of a political touch to it. As far as ‘Rakta Charitra’ goes, I never met NTR or Paritala Ravi so it is not true to say that I have put their characters in the film without knowing them. The only truth what I believe and what I understand out of a situation, there are no factual evidences to that. It is only about taking relevant points and bringing in the scenes. To be honest, there are no negative shades in ‘Rakta Charitra’ as well. In my view, no one is negative. It is only a result of a particular action that an individual gets caught into few situations and that is exactly what I have depicted here.

The trailers have shown something like ‘Pratheekarame Parama Sopanam-Mahabharatham’ and then the song ‘Hare Hare Rama….’ Followed by word ‘champaraa’. And in your song ‘Kattulato saavaasam…’ the lines of Buddhism are mentioned and it runs on a soothing note. In a way, isn’t this giving a message that Hinduism promotes violence and only Budhdhism, the peace?
Any thought of an act comes from a strong emotion and that is the realistic experience to be brought in the viewer. The song goes off on a peaceful lyrical note in the start and then there is a hard hitting voice which says ‘Champara’ with high sound. It is more to do with the audience getting connection with the song. So, there is no religious relevance in what is being said here. It is only to create an effect and I believe that more than the meaning, the idea is to create a shock to the audience. Basically, the thought is to give a feel of the powerful emotion and its consequence.

In your song ‘Kaththulatho…’ there is a line ‘viluvaina bathuku velalenidaithey maranaanni poojincharaa..”. What does it mean?
Though I didn’t really go that deep into it, I believe that if anything is done or told with conviction then all will believe. On the other hand, the tune is also appealing and unusual which will make the viewer listen to the song repeatedly to know what is being said there.

Usually, an audio release is meant to be the day for the music directors and lyricists. But during the audio release function of ‘Rakta Charitra’, no names were taken. A talk is that RGV believes in taking the entire credit, what are your thoughts?
There are four music directors for the film and all of them are in different locations busy with their works. I think that the thought of RGV taking the entire credit for anything is foolish, instead it is the other way round. I try and give the maximum credit to others. For instance, I think this is the first time in the history of Telugu cinema that a special note has come from the lyricist as part of the audio album. It was just a formal announcement of the audio release and nothing more.

A gossip was making rounds during the time of Paritala Ravi’s assassination that the hand of Y S Jagan is there in it. Then the incidents like Jagan calling for the pressmeet and asking for a CBI enquiry happened. Is ‘Rakta Charitra’ having something on those lines?
Whenever there is a conspiracy theory being planned and executed there are bound to be number of speculations and there will not be any specifics in that. And sometimes the chances of maybe some involvement but not direct is also there. So it is a mere speculation that rises out of such incidents and names are bound to be taken. But I don’t have any such thing.

The head tonsuring scene has created quite a controversy and many have related it to an actor in real life. Was it your thought as well when you had that scene in the film?
It was just few pictures which I had released in my blog and things went out of proportion. Incidentally, it is just a regular practice followed in the Seema area to humiliate a person that’s all. Truth is, there is no film actor in ‘Rakta Charitra’ and it is not related to any incident that happened in real life.

It was mentioned that Mohan Babu was to do the role essayed by Shatrughan Sinha, why that didn’t work out?
The reason for that were few logistical problems. There was the issue of re-shootings and then there was the date problem. We also thought that using the same actors for all languages was more feasible option so we went along with Shatrughna Sinha.

Some are saying that since Suri is alive, the film gives credit to Suri as the hero, is that true?
My films are not about heroes or heroines. It is about the characters and how they react to certain situations. There is no particular side that I take for any character and it will always be a neutral stand. For example, if you look at ‘Satya’, there is no hero or villain, it is only the character and his/her actions so you can understand.

You have done many movies on Mumbai mafia subject, did you receive any threats from them?
See, when someone takes a decision on becoming director, that person must be prepared to take any action and face any reaction. I like getting into hard hitting subjects right from the start and so it was offbeat. When you get into the way of people, they tend to feel insecure about it and a little uncomfortable but not to the extent of giving you some serious warnings. My desire is to tell a story than to worry about the consequences.

So, you are saying you have never received any threats
There will be some clashes of interest and sometimes they talk about it but there is no situation of a serious life threatening.

You have just announced ‘Bejawada Rowdylu’ which is already triggering some controversial response. What is the idea behind this film
I have spent my growing years in Vijayawada when I was doing engineering at Siddartha College and I had a fair idea of the gangwars there. Since I am a cinematic person I always nurtured the desire of getting it to the screen. This is not something spontaneous, I have registered the title of the film four months back and I feel a strong emotional connection with the backdrop of Vijayawada.

‘Rakta Charitra’ is about family feud, ‘Bejawada Rowdylu’ is more of a political war, don’t you think it will lead to a controversy on a higher scale and the impact it will cause on society
Be it political parties or organizations or groups, it is general human related emotion and not much with the region. Vijayawada is more of a cosmopolitan backdrop while Rayalaseema is more of an arid region. So, the terrain will be entirely different. When it comes to political war it is not a unique subject, it is a common feature everywhere but what is unique to Vijayawada is the important aspect here.

You have returned to Tollywood after a gap so how do you think Tollywood has changed? As such, I am not aware of Tollywood and the changes in it. So, it would be wrong to generalize and give an opinion on it. The working styles are different but one thing I can say is that as a director, I have not changed.

Your comeback to Tollywood is being treated as a threat to the top league directors of Tollywood, what do you feel about that?
Well..it is just that I believe in dealing with niche subjects and most of my film are experimental so I don’t see any reason why there should be any threat to anybody. So I think there will be no change in the Tollywood top league.

The era of ‘Shiva’ is about 20 years old and its impact was there for a while. Now, the new generation has seen only the flops of RGV so far. But with ‘Rakta Charitra’, the youth are getting attracted to it and the legacy will go for another 20 years, have you thought of doing an autobiography?
(laughs) I never really thought of doing something like that but then right now, a compilation of my works is going on. This is not an autobiography per se but it would be an assortment of my experiences, my thoughts on films etc.

You have expressed your open admiration to Sridevi. From the time of ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’ she has changed and now looking older. Have your feelings for her changed?
Love is usually a memory based thing so it doesn’t have to do with the age or appearance. Sridevi was, is and always will be my dream girl. I love her forever….

Sridevi’s Yamudu…Jahnavi’s Mogudu!!!

Actress Sridevi who didn’t bother to turn even her eye towards the ‘Vajrotsavams’ (which were held grandly) marking the 75 years of Telugu cinema has visited Hyderabad twice in a span of one month recently.

Sources say that the agenda behind these visits is different. After visiting RGV’s Katha Screenplay Darsakatvam Appalaraju’ as a special guest, Sridevi was again seen at the South Scope magazine awards which was done in a gap of ten days.

The grapevine behind these trips is that Sridevi is targeting on making her daughter Jahnavi’s debut in Telugu. It is also heard that along with ensuring the debut of Jahnavi, Sridevi wants to commence her second innings as well and is making the necessary preparations for that.

A very reliable source reveals that megastar Chiranjeevi and co have decided to remake the yesteryears hit ‘Attaku Yamudu…Ammayiki Mogudu’ and the buzz is that Ramcharan Tej will be seen as Sridevi’s ‘Yamudu’ and Jahnavi’s ‘Mogudu’. It is known news that the film ‘Attaku Yamudu…Ammayiki Mogudu’ which came under the combination of Chiranjeevi- Vijayasanthi- Vanisree was a blockbuster hit. This was produced by Allu Aravind.

The same film got remade in Tamil with the combination of Rajinikanth- Amala- Srividya and scored a grand success. Now again, the same film is being remade in Tamil with Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush as the hero while Hansika is the heroine and Manisha Koirala as the ‘Attha’. It is said that the makers had tried in several ways to convince Sridevi to do the ‘Attha’s role in the remake but that didn’t work. In this situation, the industry is rife with the news that preparations are on for another remake of the same film with Ramcharan Tej and earn some money. If this rumor is true…then there is no doubt in saying that this will become the most craziest project.

Shankar: 'This Robot Is Close To Humans'

Filmmaker Shankar, whose eagerly awaited film Robot is being touted as the costliest movie ever made, is planning to make the superhit Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots in Tamil.
When asked about it, Shankar said he was in talks for the project. "I am too busy with the release of Rajinikant-Aishwarya starrer Endhiran and only after that is done, I can speak about this project," the director told PTI.
The Aamir Khan-starrer, which garnered over Rs 300 crore at the Box Office, is being remade in Tamil and Telugu.
Speaking about Endhiran, which is also being released in Hindi and Telugu as Robot, Shankar said the idea of the film came to him when he decided to make a film on non-living objects.
"This Robot is close to humans," he said adding the film dwells on human relationships. "It is about seeing ourselves in the mirror," he added.
Shankar, who last directed Rajinikanth in Sivaji - The Boss, admitted his first choice was Kamal Hassan. "I wanted to start the film in 2000, but things could not be put in place," he added.
Lauding Aishwarya's efforts, Shankar who directed her in Jeans earlier, said Ash would write all her Tamil dialogues in English a day before and come to the sets next morning well prepared.
"She is a thorough professional. Ash knows the whole film, what scenes we had to shoot in a particular day, costumes as well as the lines of her co-star," the director said.
When asked about Robot being the costliest movie of the Indian film industry, Shankar said the movie was priceless in terms of hard work put in by the team and not in terms of budget.

Hrithik-Katrina share the longest kiss in ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’

Now, this piece of news is surely going to deag the audiences to the cinema halls. ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, starring, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar and Kalki Koechlin will have a super hot liplock scene.
This scene will be between Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif and will last for over a minute in the film.
Confirming the news, a source said, “Zoya had been planning a kiss sequence between Hrithik and Katrina for long. But since Katrina is averse to doing such scenes, she wanted to handle the situation delicately.”
Talking about the scene, the source adds, “There’s an important sequence where Katrina realizes her love for Hrithik, who has just bid her goodbye and is going away and so she zooms in on her bike, overtakes Hrithik, parks the bike and stops him and simply kisses him and expresses her feelings and love.”
Buzz is that, this is gonna be the longest kissing scene in Bollywood, beating the previous one by Aamir and Karisma in ‘Raja Hindustani’.
The best part is that Zoya did not have much difficulty in convincing Katrina to enact the scene.

Bollywood Heroine Rejects Naga Chaitanya

It is a common fact that the Tollywood folks have got a special fascination for the Bollywood beauties. Even the star kids seem to be no exception for that. However, it is not always that our people tend to get successful with the Mumbai maidens as they tend to show their airs.

Right now, a strong grapevine has begun to make rounds about Naga Chaitanya. The buzz is that the makers of his new film approached the slender beauty Sonam Kapoor to be his leading lady. However, the pretty girl declined the offer and here is the reason for that.

It seems Sonam made it clear that she would not want to act with south Indian stars who are just few films old. Well, truth remains that she is barely four films old and a statement like that from her is ironical. On the other hand, this is also looking like a message to Chaitu to prove his mettle little more.

Sridevi on the ramp…

Bollywood actress Sridevi almost came close to tripping twice on the ramp during fashion designer Neeta Lulla’s show at Lakme Fashion Week, 2010.
Sridevi was the showstopper for the show that marked Lulla’s 25th anniversary and she was visibly nervous while sashaying the ramp in the silver-grey gown. She fluffed twice but maintained her composure and completed her ramp walk without tripping.
Asked about Sridevi’s nervousness, Lulla said: “As far as I think, it happens sometimes when you walk the ramp after a long time.”

However, Lulla didn’t make a big deal out of it and said she was very happy that Sridevi walked the ramp for her.
“It was fantastic that on my 25th anniversary Sridevi walked the ramp and so many people actually made it to the show,” she said.
Sridevi too admitted that walking on the ramp was hard for her.
“It was great but at the same time very hard for me,” she said.

Dabangg’s ‘Zandu Balm’ in danger…

On one hand, the makers of Dabangg are rejoicing the stupendous success of the track, while on the other, they are ‘facing the music’, courtesy Emami, the makers of ‘Zandu Balm’.
“Main Zandu Balm hui, darling tere liye.” This line hasn’t been digested well with the makers of the Zandu Balm, which is a pain relief ointment. Emami has slapped a legal notice to Arbaaz Khan Productions Private Limited for using their brand’s name. The company claims that the brand name ‘Zandu Balm’ was used in the song without their permission.
The company’s counsel Ashok M Saraogi has sent a notice which reportedly says: “In the song, the name Zandu balm has been used continuously at various places. By using the brand name in the song, you have not only violated the copyright of my clients, but you have also made an attempt to defame the reputation of my clients and the product manufactured by them.”
The manufacturers of Zandu balm HAS asked the producers to either withdraw the song or delete the brand name from it.

Is Bebo’s shelf-life expiring???

I don’t seem to remember any hit films of starring Kareena Kapoor in recent times. Do you??? Well, 3 Idiots does pop up in the head, but people, it can hardly qualify as a ‘Bebo film’. Strike this one out and you can’t find one hit film in Kareena’s filmography since late 2008.
Her last release We Are Family isn’t exactly minting any money at box office, and her Milenge Milenge with ex beau Shahid Kapoor sank without a trace. And who can forget the super debacle of Kurbaan last year, a movie that almost made a mockery of a serious issue.
Add to the list another turkey in the form of Main Aur Mrs Khanna with Salman Khan. Even Bebo’s pairing with Akshay Kumar in Kambakkht Ishq couldn’t turn her box office fortune around.
Its high time, Bebo had a hit film in hand. Hope it comes with Golmaal 3 during the Diwali weekend this year… Fingers crossed.
Good luck Babo.. :)

‘Saradaga Kasepu’ Review: Ok For Time-Pass

Film: Saradaga Kasepu
Rating: 3/5
Cast:
Allari Naresh, Srinivas Avasarala, Madhurima, Ahuthi Prasad, MS Narayana, Kondavalasa, Jayalalitha, Sana, Krishna Bhagawan, Ramya Sree, Jaya Prakash Reddy etc
Music: Chakry
Camera: Loki
Dialogue: Padala Siva Subrahmanyam
Story: Relangi Narasimha Rao
Direction: Vamsy
Released On: 17th Sep 2010

Allari Naresh, the busiest lead actor is Tollywood, has come up with another film within a gap of few weeks after ‘Subhapradam. This time he emerged in the direction of veteran movie maker Vamsy. And the second lead is Srinivas Avasarala, the actor who turned popular with ‘Asta Chemma’.

Story:Driver Ranga Babu (Allari Naresh) is the childhood friend of Srinivas (Srinivas Avasarala) who hails from a rich family and returns from USA. Srinivas’s father Gajapathi (Jeeva) and mother (Sana) wish to get their son married to Manimala (Madhurima), the daughter of Raja Rao (Ahuthi) who lives in another city.

But Srinivas puts a condition that he wants to test the girl and hence prefers to appear in front her in driver’s costume and asks Ranga Babu to act as owner. This results in misinterpretations and misunderstandings and runs like a big comedy of errors at Manimala’s place.

Finally who marries whom? And how the situations settle down? That forms the story on a whole.

Performances:
Allari Naresh brought innumerable laughs as usual. His trade mark pun and fun made the audience stick on to seats. His dialogues are impressive just because of his delivery.

Srinivas Avasarala has shown a difference from that of ‘Asta Chemma’. He acted up to the role and perfectly suited to be along with Allari Naresh in screen presence and energy levels.

Madhurima looks good but the make up could have been better for her especially in songs. Costumes are ok.

Krishna Bhagawan’s comedy is routine but brings laughs to front benchers. Ahuthi Prasad has got a couple of worthy dialogues to make audience laugh. MS is also ok. Jaya Prakash Reddy has got wasted.

Analysis:
There is no big story. There is no great effort to knit the narration with great humor. It just goes like a village bus. It’s natural wit that sparks here and there in dialogues and renditions. As the title sounds ‘it’s just a time pass movie’ and no big blasts can be expected.

This time Vamsy concentrated only on lighter moments but not on something sentimental. That’s laudable to an extent. He too didn’t leave showcasing the popular Saree brand Kalamandir in a dialogue as well as in a scene to get some support with costumes.

Allari Naresh’s dialogues pulled some good attention just because of his trade mark rendition although the lines are very normal. Here are a few to recall:

Allari Naresh: ‘nenu matladetappudu nee chevulu maatrame pani cheyyali. Kaadani inkemi pani chesinaa…ninnu naa next birthday ki pilavanu”.

(when a man shows thumb as a sign to say ‘done’ in a serious scene) Allari Naresh: entamma..manchineelu kaavala…

Music is ok. Chakry seems to be the best bet to make a tailor made customized music that fits in the taste of Vamsy.  The canning of songs has got the mark of Vamsy.

First half goes with average narration while the second half picks up with laughs. This is a movie that can run for some time till the big movies arrive.

Bottom Line: Just ok for time pass as the title sounds.
